Continuing with the Imageries of the Holy Spirit
*Imagery: Wind
●John 3:8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.
●Here, we see Jesus explaining to Nicodemus the involvement of the Holy Spirit in a person’s new birth
●
■Some characters of a natural wind :
●the wind is invisible
●the wind is unpredictable
When we turn on a fan, we do not see the wind, but we can ” feel” it.
●We can experience the wind
●Similarly, we can experience the Holy Spirit.
●Also ,the wind is present in every place on this earth
●Similarly, the work of the Holy Spirit, too, is universal
●The works of the Holy Spirit are not limited to a country, region or race
■ Why is it that we need this fresh wind of the Holy Spirit?
● It’s because:
He alone can wake us out of our spiritual lethargy
●He alone can dispel the toxic fumes of unbelief and carnality
●He alone can bring the sweet aroma of heaven back into our lives.
■ Ruah – is the word for breath in the Hebrew language
●The word Ruah can be used for wind as well.
●In many places in the Hebrew Bible, we see this word Ruah used for wind ,too
●Genisis Chapter 8:1
Ruah, here is used for wind
●Genisis Chapter 6:17
Ruah, here is used for breath
●Genisis Chapter 41:8
Ruah,here is used for spirit
●Ruah of the Holy Spirit is invisible but is one that we can experience
■The wind is something that is beyond the control of man
●In the same way, no one can control the works of the Holy Spirit.
●The principle is that , if you are available, the Holy Spirit will act in your life.
●Just like the fact that you need copper wire for electricity to pass through and a runway is needed for a plane to land
●The Holy Spirit needs a heart that is willing to receive HIM
●For those who are willing , the Holy Spirit, too, is willing to work in them.
■Acts 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind
●When the Holy Spirit works in your life ,he works suddenly
●This word is a sign of speed
●Speed is attached to the works of the Holy Spirit
●”rushing mighty wind” also indicates speed.
■Genisis 2:7 Then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.
●The breath came from God, and the breath represents the Holy Spirit .
●John 20:22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
●So here He breathed on them and said ‘receive the Holy Spirit ‘
●Rushing mighty wind
●Speed is usually attached with the wind.
●We see this in Acts 2:2
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind
●And then it says :
and it filled all the house where they were sitting
●When the Holy works in us, He will fill every area of our life.
●The verse says about a sound .
It’s a manifestation of the Holy Spirit
● A sound was heard – the various manifestations of the Holy Spirit will attract people .
●Verse 6 says, because of the sound, people gathered to see what was happening there.
●In fact, a revival happened due to the sound
●The sound was a manifestation
●When Manifestations happen ,multitudes will automatically come to witness the works of the Holy Spirit!
■Genisis 8:1
But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded.
●●Notice that God send a wind to bring back the earth to its previous state !
*The Lord will remember you
*The Lord remembered Noah
*He will remember you too !
*He is a faithful God he will definitely remember you !
●Also,the present earth, as we know, is different from the earth before the flood.
●Genesis 1
We understand that in the beginning ,the earth was like a single piece of land with no separation.
●Genisis 10:25
in his time, the earth was divided
●The present earth and the earth before the flood were different.
●Some theologians believe that the earth underwent an expansion ,and hence the water covering the earth receded.
●The wind is what helped bring the world back to a normal state.
●Many changes occurred as a result of the flood
●Many theologians believe the hydrological cycle came into existence after the flood
■ Again in Exodus 14:21
Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. The Lord drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night, and turned the sea into dry land; and the waters were divided.
●Here too we see that it’s a wind from the Lord that divided the Red Sea
●When Moses was worried as he was faced with the red see in front of him and the Pharoah’s army pursuing him , Moses asks the Lord what is it that he is to do and the Lord asks him to remember His promise ,
and act in faith and stretch out his rod towards the Red Sea.
●So if there is a promise, there should be a corresponding action
●Similarly if you have a promise, the Lord is expecting a corresponding act from you too !
●You should be worshipping, praying and spending more time in prayer.
●If you have a promise, do what is right and then God will act.
●When you do the corresponding actions God will fullfill his promise
■So, do you have a call on you life ?
●You should go ahead and do the corresponding acts ,
Stretch out your rod of faith !
and then God will act.
