Gift of Interpretation of Tongues
It is the least of all the gifts because it depends on another gift, which is the gift of tounges .
●It is not an independent gift .
●It does not operate unless the gift of tounges has been in operation.
●The purpose of the gift of interpretation is to render the Gift of Tounges understandable to the listeners so that the whole church will be blessed.
● To understand what someone has spoken in other tounges, you need the gift of interpretation of tongues.
●As you speak and interpret Other Tounges, you are operating in a supernatural language, and hence, the Church will be edified.
●The whole chapter 1 Corinthians 14 ,Paul devotes to the gifts of Prophesy, Tounges and Interpretation of tongues.
●1 Corinthians 14:5 says
I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.
●Gifts like Word of Wisdom and Word of Knowledge are considered higher gifts when compared to the gift of interpretation of tongues
●While gifts like the Word of Wisdom ,Word of Knowledge, and Prophesy are all Independent gifts, gift of interpretation is not independent. it’s dependent on the gift of tounges.
●You can use this gift of interpretation of tongues both in public and private prayer.
●The gift of interpretation of tongues is, in fact ,the least used gift in these modern times.
●1 Corinthians 14:27
anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. 28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God. 29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge. 30 But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged.
●These verses suggest that there was confusion and disorder in operation in the Church at Corinth.
●So ,the gift of interpretation was helpful in rectifying this disorderly situation.
●The gift of interpretation can prove very useful in one’s private prayer life.
●An example is of the well-known evangelist Kenneth E Hagin .When he was a Bachelor ,he was used to praying in tounges for very long hours .
●Once as he was interpreting his own prayer in tounges, he realized that he was praying in the spirit for his own marriage, though at that time in his natural mind he had no plans of getting married and he even received an interpretation which suggested that he would have 2 kids in the future from his marriage, a girl and a boy!!
●The gift of interpretation of tongues is not a gift of translation.
●Gift of Interpretation is showing forth(proclaiming) supernaturally, what was said.
●It can vary from the form of literal translation that we know of because for a small word in Tounges, the interpretation may be very long, and for a fairly long sentence in Tounges, the interpretation could be a rather small one.
●1 Corinthians 14:13-17
Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. 16 Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say? 17 For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified.
●The true reason one should seek for the gift of interpretation is not primarily at an early stage for public interpretation, but it’s firstly to privately interpret his own personal prayers.
●This will edify one personally and will help improve his own prayer life .
●Then, it will help him later to interpret publicly.
●Also, during prayer, if you happen to receive an interpretation, write it down immediately. Otherwise, you might forget it soon.
●Also, if you have the gifts of Prophesy and interpretation of tongues, you can switch from interpretation to prophesy while ministering.
●Also,we have to remember that all gifts are interdependent .
●To prophesy, one needs a deeper level of faith .
●Bring interpretation back into your personal prayers, and God will bless your private prayers.
●1 Corinthians 14:27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. 32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. 33 For God is not the author of confusion but of peace , as in all the churches of the saints.
●The foundational principle here is not to bring confusion by your prophesy and interpretation
●When you conclude your ministry, there should be comfort. The people listening should be promoted to a higher level.
●One should try to never cause confusion to people by his gift of interpretation.
God Bless
