Atonement Cont’d….
Hebrews 9:22 says And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.
●Jesus came into this world to die,He became a sacrifice on the Cross ✝️ of Calvary, which is called the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
●Hebrews 9:22-28
●This verse states that according to the law,all things are purified by blood and that there is no forgiveness of sins without the shedding of blood.
●Verse 23 says that all these things on earth ,which are purified with blood ,are copies of the Tabernacle in heaven and that better sacrifices are needed for the Tabernacle in heaven.
●Only the sacrifice of Jesus can have an effect on heavenly things .
●Also, the High priest will need to offer sacrifice every year ,and the sins of men will only be covered for a year
●The sacrifice of Jesus is once and for all, its done forever !
●With that one deep suffering, everything is done for humanity.
● In the Old Testament ,the High priest would offer sacrifices every year at the Tabernacle .
●But we as new Testament believers were redeemed by one atoning sacrifice, the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross of Calvary
● Hebrews 9:27,28 says
And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, 28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many.
●Atonement is the doorway to all the truth.
●We have to understand that the central truth of the Bible ,which is the atoning sacrifice of Jesus
●Faith ,prayer etc can never be properly understood without the atoning sacrifice.
●Atonement is the power of God unto all truth.
●A main theme of the worship in heaven is giving glory to the Lamb ,who was slain .
●The work on the cross can be called as the throne of the universe,
●Hebrews 13:12
Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
●Jesus was raised back to life due to His own blood that was shed .
●Jesus’ blood was sinless and perfect, and hence ,the resurrection happened.
●His blood has the capacity and power to wash our sin away
●The blood of Jesus has the power to heal our bodies
Death was destroyed by the Blood of Jesus.
●The Blood will ultimately destroy sin on this earth and eliminate it from this world.
●Without the work on the cross ,there is no victory .
●Jesus entered the Most Holy Place with “His own Blood “
●Luke 22:44 reads
And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
●Jesus’ blood was extruded out of his body as droplets of sweat, and they fell to the ground in the Garden of Gethsemane.
●This was the first time blood was shed from Jesus’s body and fell to the ground.
●Isaiah 50:6 says
I gave My back to those who struck Me,
And My cheeks to those who plucked out the beard;
●In the Gospel, we see that not everything that Jesus suffered is fully recorded.
●Here ,we need the help of the Old Testament .
●We use verses in the Old Testament to explain Jesus’ suffering
●The Blood on Jesus’ face could also have come because he was struck by a soilder at the High Priests place .
●Also ,as Jesus was taken by the soilders, they placed a crown of thorns on His head, and due to this, blood flowed down from his head as His head was wounded,
●Then, at the Praetorium of Pilate, Jesus was scourged ,and blood flowed down from the wounds on his back and fell to the ground .
●All the way He walked to the cross blood flowed from his body and fell to the ground.
●His hands and feet were pierced by nails, and blood flowed down from those wounds onto the
ground.
●It’s to be noted that the fact that Jesus’s hands and
feet were nailed to the cross is mentioned only in the old Testament in Psalms 22:16
where it is written
For dogs have surrounded Me;
The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me.
They pierced My hands and My feet
●So blood flowed out of His hands and feet
●The only place where this is mentioned ,but indirectly, in the New Testament is in John 20:24
Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”
●And in Verse 27 we read
Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.
●So John 20:24 is the proof of what is mentioned in Psalms 22.
●Finally ,after the death of Jesus on the cross ,a soilder pierces His side and immediately blood flows out from his side onto the ground which is mentioned in John 19:34
But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
●So we understand that blood flowed out of Jesus’s as sweat ,then it came out of his face, head ,back, hands, feet, and then from his side when it was pierced .
●The blood fell on the ground in Gatsamane, in Pilate’s Praetorium ,on the way to Golgotha and on the cross at Calvary.
●Every drop of blood that was shed was collected and presented before the throne of grace.
●The blood was shed in various places ,so who collected all the blood ?
●The Holy Spirit collected all of the blood, not even a single drop remained on the earth .
●Then Jesus went up to the most Holy place with his own blood.
●As we go deep into all these events, we start to realize that the whole of heaven was working behind this great sacrifice.
●The price was paid, and the wrath of the Father was quenched.
●The reconciliation process was completed when Jesus presented his blood to the Father in the most holy place in Heaven.
