Gifts of the Holy Spirit Continued
●1 Corinthians 12:1 says
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant.
●This verse tells us that we should have knowledge about the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
●1 Corinthians 12:6 onwards
speaks about the various gifts
And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
●We are actually saved to serve .
●The Holy Spirit has given us Gifts of the Spirit that enable us to serve in the Kingdom of God
●The 9 Gifts of the Spirit are:
- Word of Wisdom
- Word of Knowledge
- The Gift of Faith
- The Gift of Healings
- Working of miracles
- The Gift of Prophesy
- The discerning of spirits
- Different kinds of tounges
- Interpretation of tongues
●Different gifts often are seen to work together
●For example ,the gift of tounges and the gift of interpretation are seen to work together.
●The word of knowledge and the gift of prophesy are often seen to work together.
●1 Corinthians 12 :8 for to one is given the word of knowledge through the Spirit,
●This verse speaks about the gift of “the word of knowledge”
●This gift is usually defined as ” the supernatural revelation by the Holy Spirit of certain facts in the mind of God.
●God is all-knowing ,and that’s the reason why He is referred to as omniscient .
Also,God is omnipresent.
●But even though God is omniscient, He does not reveal everything HE knows to man.
●Word of knowledge is when God gives man just a word or reveals to man just a part of what He knows.
●A Word of knowledge is just a fragmentary part of the entire knowledge or council of God.
●He does not impart all of His knowledge to us.
●At a given time as we receive a word of knowledge, we actually receive a small fragmentary part of God’s vast knowledge.
●Word of knowledge is a supernatural revelation by the Holy Spirit of certain facts in the mind of the all-knowing God.
●The word of knowledge is not natural knowledge. The word of knowledge is infact a supernatural manifestation , and so are all the other gifts of the Holy Spirit.
●In the Word of wisdom and word of knowledge, the Lord is giving you a word in a supernatural way .
●Also, the word of knowledge is not a profound knowledge of the word of God .
●Also, the gift of the word of knowledge is not knowledge of God that is obtained through a close communion with Him
●Knowledge of God obtained through close communion is not word of knowledge.
●Examples of knowledge in the Bible:
●John the Apostle in the island of Patmos receives the word of knowledge from God.
●The word of knowledge can be received through visions .
●It can be received through intuition .
●One can receive the word of knowledge in one’s spirit .
●On the island 🏝 of Patmos John, the Apostle receives the word of knowledge through a vision.
●If there is some revelation present in a prophesy, then we can say that the word of knowledge and the Word of wisdom are also operating simultaneously.
●Simple prophesy is for comfort , edification , and consolation .
●But beyond these basic functions ,when a prophet is able to reveal the names of the people concerned,or something else we can say that the word of wisdom and the word of knowledge are in operation.
●It is when these 3 are in operation, that is the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge and the gift of prophesy, that the prophet is able to reveal secrets.
●In Island of Patmos word of knowledge is reavled to John the Apostle.
●The word of Knowledge came through a vision.
●In Revelation 2 and 3 Jesus reveals to John the condition of the 7 churches in Asia Minor in a vision .
●How did John actually receive this revelation, he received it through a word of knowledge.
●There is no natural way he could have known the condition of the churches located so far away.
●Jesus reveals the spiritual condition of those churches to John through a vision and this is an example of the word of knowledge in the Bible.
●In Acts 9:10 we read about a disciple called Ananias.
In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!”
Yes Lord he answered
The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul , for he is praying . 12 In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.”
●Here we notice that the Lord spoke to him very specifically
● The house owners name is revealed as Judas
●The name of the street is revealed to be Straight
●The name of the man who is praying is revealed as Saul
●The man’s place of birth is revealed to be Tarsus
●What Saul was doing was also revealed , he was revealed to be praying
●In Acts 10 God gives Peter a vision
Acts 10:19
While Peter thought about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are seeking you. 20 Arise therefore, go down and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.”
●The Holy Spirit tells Peter that 3 men are waiting outside for him
●This is a word of knowledge.
●Similarly God can speak to us too through a word of knowledge!
●A fragment of God’s plan is revealed through a word of knowledge.
